My family of 3 kids and my husband were thinking about going to costa rica in late august, but we heard that the bugs are crazy and were afraid that would be a problem. Is it? Would a trip to costa rica be a nice enjoyable one?
I highly recommend vacationing in Costa Rica. I wear bug spray, and have never had a problem with the bugs. Well, ants are usually an issue. Don’t leave any food out in your hotel room – nothing. Put it in sealed containers or in a fridge (if you hotel room has one). Ants will invade your room in a couple of hours if you leave any food where they can find it.
I disagree that kids wouldn’t enjoy Costa Rica. Depending on their ages, they would probably enjoy different things – but it can be really educational if you want it too be. They have tons of wildlife, volcanoes, rain forest, cloud forest and so much interesting stuff your kids heads will be spinning. They have the opportunity to learn about a different culture. You can really have a great time with this trip and make it a learning op for your kids that they won’t soon forget.

I was thinking of taking my next vacation to Costa Rica. I’ve been looking at some areas and there are so many to choose from.
Can anyone offer advice as to what area would be good for:
Nightlife?
Tours?
Snorkeling – is the water clear enough?
Can anyone offer advice? Thanks.
Costa Rica is a very poor country, very heavy and angry people, if they look at dollars they charge from you the triple one, you cannot take photographies opposite any person for whom almost that steal your camera from you, they assaulted me in manuel antonio’s beach in addition it is a country with many violence in centroameica better sees Guatemala or Panama they are most nice, clean, beautuful and the secutiry is better.
can you tell me about playa del coco, costa rica?

i need to know the scoop on the town…eatging out, nightlife, tours, surf spots, etc
Playas del Coco is among the most well known beaches in the country. Located near the Daniel Oduber International Airport, Liberia.
A very popular area for sport fishing, Playas del Coco is the largest village in Guanacaste province. Known primarily as the gateway for surfers to reach places like Ollie’s Point and Witches Rock, where the waves are superb, this busy beach is a prime scuba diving spot, with many tour and dive companies set up here.
Very popular among the locals, Playas del Coco has a well developed infrastructure, with good roads and plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, discos, casinos, hotels, resorts and markets.
The nightlife here is also quite good, so if you happen to visit the area during Christmas or Easter week expect to find a lot of people here partying ‘beach style.’
The beach of Playas del Coco itself is a grayish brown and the tide here often remains quite low. Surrounded by steep cliffs and hills, this horseshoe shaped bay area is the ideal place to have some fun. However, if you are looking for a quiet spot to relax, try staying away from the center of town, where most of the fun happens.
From Playas del Coco you can also head out to Pelonas Islands, Catalinas and Bat
Islands as well, which are excellent sites to spot turtles, sharks and octopuses in the natural environment.
The main attraction of this beach is its excellent variety of tourist facilities and great weather. Besides fishing excursions, the sailing here is also quite good.
Many tourists also use Playas del Coco as a base camp because of its affordable accommodations, when touring the Guanacaste region.

Cockroaches in Costa Rica’s hotels!?!?!?
Author: admin
Okay. So im pretty positive cockroaches are all over the place in Costa Rica but what I want to know is are they avoidable? Will my hotel have them no matter where I stay?
I am thinking of taking a trip to Costa Rica and I have HUGE fear of roaches. Literally, you will see a grown man cry if one is thrown at him, then you’ll see a fist coming your way. So this will really make or break my plans. I really want to go there and I dont mind paying more to stay in a hotel that does not have them.
Any recommedations are appreciated.
Robert,
It’s a fact that any place warm year round will have an active cockroach population. It’s also a fact that any building that receives deliveries of food will be exposed to cockroaches. And finally, any building that invites people from around the world to unpack personal items and stay days at a time will be ground zero for traveling bugs.
Any hotel South of the North American frost-line will have all of these properties. The key question is not if the hotel has cockroaches, but how active the hotel management is in working to mitigate the little buggers.
Find a clean hotel, keep your luggage zipped-up and enjoy your stay in beautiful Costa Rica … with the confidence of knowing all living animals (insects or otherwise) still have their own predators to worry about ;o)

what shots are required for travelers to costarica?

i’m from canada. been to costa rica in 1997 and 2005. didn’t take any shots for the 1997 trip. never got food sickness there either.
check out http://www.cdc.gov/travel/camerica.htm
not a bad idea to get tetanus, polio, hepA shot if travelling extensively to other countries
We would be departing from New Orleans trip would be one week or more.
Went to the Pacific side (Gulf of Papagayo) of Costa Rica about 5 years ago and stayed at the Blue Bay resort (don’t know if it is still under that name). Had a really good time there, staff was friendly, food was great (became really fond of Costa Rican pineapple and Costa Rican coffee), and the resort had nice dinner shows; not much of a beach and poor snorkeling. I do think staying at a resort is definitely a better way of meeting other people if that’s important to you. One of the couples my brother and I met actually purchased a timeshare condo close to the resort they had such a good time. If interested, I’ll see if I can get their e-mail info from my brother.
Maps of Costa Rica for NUVI?

Where can I get them and can I download them ?
Do I need them I can not seem to find them on the internet readily available?
You won’t find them. My dad tried to and was not able to. We ended up renting a car and they gave us a map at the rental place. Tell the employees where you want to go and they will highlight a route on a map for you. If you are patient and know a little Spanish, you will get along just fine!
Good luck!
In spanish class we are making little billboards of places in Costa Rica. What is an interesting and colorful place i can make mine of. One example would be somewhere like Buru ri ri (sp?) It is a national park, so something like that. Or a good website with different tourist sites that are there.
One of the volcanoes would make an excellent billboard. You can look them up in Wikipedia.
I am going to Costa Rica on vacation (specifically the arenal and manuel antonio areas). Do I need to take any medications / shots before I go on the trip?
Thanks!
No, you don’t need any special vaccinations or medications. Just make sure your vaccinations are up to date, since their protection is needed where you live and elsewhere in the world. The only precaution you need to take is insect repellent for dengue fever (it has to be at least 23% DEET). If you get diarrhea or something, you can go to the pharmacy, where you can get almost anything without a prescription.
