We rented a Pathfinder at the downtown Thrifty Rental Car in San Jose (rental arranged in the States). It was supposed to be just walking distance from hotel, but it took forever to find … as you know by now, street signs are optional there. LOL!

I’m going to CR next month. What kind of vehicle did you rent? I’m looking at renting a Suzuki Jimny 4×4…

We did a similar ride on dirt roads, but we wussed out and backtracked to the main road when the going got rough, LOL

We drove to Monte Verde on our way to Tamarindo beach … this is a mountainous area with cooler temperatures… it simply beautiful and worth going up for at least an overnight trip if not more… lots to do. We stayed at the Monte Verde lodge for a very reasonable rate of $100/night.
4-wheel drive is highly recommended. Have a great trip.

I hope you got where you were going!
Where were you driving in Costa Rica?
We’re about to go there and rent a car for four days. Hopefully staying mostly on paved roads.

I rented it from Thrifty Rental Car in downtown San Jose, but i believe its stock map for Costa Rica. I highly recommend it as you’ll find there are no street signs 90% of the time. Have a great trip.
