Volunteer for the Hogar Community in Costa Rica

This hogar comunitario (community daycare centre) assists underprivileged families by caring for children while parents are working. Volunteers must be of age 18 or above with minimum education of high school. Volunteers can assist by doing the following tasks:

-reading with the kids -caring for children (help facilitating: brushing teeth, nap time, eating, etc.) -tidying -playing with the kids (arts and crafts, side projects, sports, games, etc.) -teaching basic English (to some of the older kids)

Volunteers should be :

Patience, fun, ability to show initiative and create fun and educational activities that the kids will enjoy and that will keep them out of the way of the daycare mom for at least a few minutes! Someone who is open-minded, and who likes helping and sharing.

Volunteers with the folowing special skills are preferred for the placement:- Child & Youth Worker Early Childhood Education Social Worker (BSW) Social Work Student Day Care Work Social Worker (MSW) Volunteers can assist by doing following tasks:- Reading, caring for children, cleaning, arts and crafts, etc.

This placement is located in San Isidro de El General is the largest and most important town south of San Jose. It is often referred to as San Isidro, Perez Zeledon, or just Perez. It is located in a valley created by the Rio General and has become a centre for agriculture, tourism, and transportation.

The town is located along the Interamericana Highway, so it is easy to get anywhere in the country from San Isidro. The town has a large downtown area with a wide variety of supermarkets, banks, restaurants and shops and is centred around the large cathedral and Parque Central.
