    I was just there a couple years ago. I needed my passport, but not a Visa. The US has an agreement with most latin american countries to where US citizens don’t need Visas, but still need passports.

    If you are a US citizen, you have to have a valid passport to visit Costa Rica and that passport can not expire 90 days from when your expected leaving date is.

    Once entering, Immigration officials will stamp your passport with a 90 tourist visa.
