How long to drive from Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste to the Caribbean?
We’re going early March and to tell you the truth I would have booked on the Caribbean coast as I love the islands. However having never been to Costa Rica I’m wondering if a day trip would work and be worthwhile. Are the roads good/confusing? Is the Caribbean coast different? Thanks so much!

It depends on what part of the Caribbean you are at. Northern (Colorado) or Southern ( Cahuita) part. Which every way, you can figure on a long long day (8-14 hrs, if not a couple of days), and that all depends on traffic, road condition, weather, and pit stops.
Unless you are very experience in driving in CR, I would not recommend it, the roads can be very confusing, but are Okay in condition. March is the semi-beginning of the raining season, expect more delays.
You may consider taking a bus and leave the driving to someone who is experience.

With the earthquake there is a road that is no longer in use, meaning there will be a lot more traffic in the Braulio Carrillo road. The roads can be confusing since there are few signs and the roads can be nice if its in the mountains in the Braulio Carrillo National Park, if not they may have potholes. But some tourists like that and say it’s an adventure
I love when I see those people with a positive attitude. Also, watch out for the days you plan on travelling since there are trucks that create tons of traffic that can delay you for HOURS so check on their schedule.
But it’s worth it, trust me
The Caribbean gives off a different vibe, and it is positive and fun! (southern part)
Good luck!
