Costa Rica Travel and Vacation

We are flying into San Jose in Costa Rica and have decided to rent a car. We have hear different opinions about pre booking or renting when we arrive. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Cheers

I will be going to Costa Rica as a Tourist and would like to know what landlords require to rent a one bedroom apt? Any special documents or paperwork? Or first and last months rent? I plan on staying there the three month maximum, travel to Panama for a week then return to CR for three more tourist months, a six month apt lease. If possible? Thank you.
