Costa Rica Surf Camp
Author: admin
If youâre like me, you like to travel to South America and you like to surf. Also, if youâre like me, youâre a terrible surfer and need a Costa Rica surf camp, like the one at La Escuela del Sol. This Costa Rica surf camp is located in Montezuma, Costa Rica and offers a lot of the usual things youâd expect. Surfing (duh), sitting on the beach (my fave), and also yoga. The yoga part is a nice way for you to relax and distress from after the embarrassment of face planting in the shallows all day. Lucky for you, at La Escuela del Sol you classes including surfing, yoga, fire dancing, and Spanish so learn how to say âYes, I did ride some gnarly waves at a Costa Rican surf camp brah!â Students at this Costa Rica surf camp can take any one or two courses per week with programs going anywhere from 1to 4 weeks. Everyone goes on a waterfall hike and a turtle egg laying tour (in season). Two, three and four week students are also offered a zip line canopy tour or a horseback riding tour. College credit is available. Seriously, college credit for going to a Costa Rica Surf Camp! Why didn’t I have this in college? Visitors stay at the small, family-owned hotel, La Cascada, built into the jungle, next to an awesome waterfall and across road from the ocean. The open air yoga studio and restaurant are gorgeous and sitting in a hammock on the beautiful beaches is a nice way to unwind after a day of surf. And you can get some real feeling for the country by exploring Montezuma, which has a lot of personality for a small town. So what are you waiting for? The Costa Rica surf camp is not going to come to you!
Costa rica surf and Spanish school

Costa Rica is one of the foremost adventure capitals of the world. From watching active volcanoes spew fiery rocks into the air, to hiking, biking, zip lining and rafting. Costa Rica is a country rich and full of life. Perhaps more than anything, Costa Rica is famous for its surf. With hundreds of miles of coast line, Costa Rica surf has some of the most beautiful and biggest waves in the world. Small charming villages nestle themselves among sandy coves, while some of the larger coastal cities such as Jaco cater to hip young crowds that love fun! People come for two main reasons, Costa Rica surf and Spanish school. Costa Rica has some of the best surfing in the world, and in a country that speaks mostly Spanish, where better to immerse yourself and learn. Costa Rica surf and Spanish school go hand in hand, when carving a wave nothing feels better then to help out “tremendo!” and know what it means! Costa Rica is unlike any place on earth. Hot sunny days await along the coast, while higher in the mountains clouds wisp across lush forest held in eternal mist. The people of Costa Rica are amazing friendly. Warm and generous Costa Rican’s (or Tica’s as they call themselves) love teaching visitors about their country. With dozens of villages combining Costa Rica surf and Spanish school, everywhere you go will be amazing. In Costa Rica you can immerse yourself in a world not your own. Whether climbing volcanoes, enjoying the Costa Rica surf and Spanish school, Costa Rica is truly a paradise. From locals to visitors alike life in Costa Rica slows down. You learn to enjoy the small things, beautiful sunsets, waves crashing against your face in the Costa Rica surf, or relaxing activities such as yoga and Tai Chi. Costa Rica is a place you’ll want to come again and again, it’s a place where you can try things you’ve never tried, learn things you’ve always wanted to, and live the good life, or as they say in Costa Rica Purda Vida!
I’m going down to Costa on a surf trip in early October, and am wondering about getting a boat to take me fishing while I’m there.
Most likely I’ll be in Pavones / Matapalo, but might end up in Hermosa or Playa Negra… answers from people with experience in Pavones area would be most helpful.
Does anyone have experience getting a fishing boat? I’d rather not pay a thousand bucks to have some fancy charter boat take me out — I heard that you can haggle with locals to take you out in search of some dolphin or tuna or even bluewater striking fish. As long as we can get out there and do some fishing (maybe some drinking) and have a good time, I’d be happy.
Has anyone done this, and if so, what kind of price should I be aiming for (will be split among myself and two friends)? Also, I’m not familiar with central american fishing and don’t know what kind of fish are in season in October.

Get Your Surf On

Guys and gals alike have been flocking to Costa Rica for years now for the surf spots alone. Currently, surf tourism makes up approximately 20 percent of the country’s annual tourists-this means about 200,000 surfers visit the country each year just to ride some of the world’s most incredible waves. Surf spots are easily found up and down Costa Rica’s Pacific (west side) and Caribbean (east side) coastlines. Waves on the North Pacific Coast are generally a bit smaller than ones you’ll see in high season (December through April) and during tropical storms on the Caribbean. But the waves are consistently good year-round. During rainy season (April to mid-December), you’ll find the best swells on the Pacific side, but during the dry season on the west coast (December through April), you’ll continuous well-formed waves. The Caribbean Coast on the east has a notoriously shorter, less reliable surfing season, but the frequent tropical storms and hurricanes often equal killer swells. In general, the surf is best during the hot and dry season (October until April). Water temperatures don’t vary that much on either side or throughout the seasons-the water is more than comfortable 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius) all year long. The more than 800 miles of Pacific and Caribbean Ocean coastline are home to many of the top international surfing competitions every year. This past August, Billabong hosted the ISA World Surfing Games 2009 in Playa Hermosa. A seemingly endless volcanic, black sand beach just 5 minutes south of the popular tourist destination of Jacó (10 minutes south of Los Sueños), Play Hermosa is the ideal location for more experienced surfers. Playa Hermosa is an especially ideal location because its waves break only 13 feet from shore. With steady, 4 to 8-foot-high waves and warm Pacific waters, you can catch quality rides all day long. Beginner and intermediate surfers don’t fear. The nearby town of Jacó offers surfing lessons for all levels taught by local and international experienced surfers speaking a variety of languages. Spend a day or a week in the water, many different surf packages are available and can be organized in advance or on a day-by-day basis. Surfing is so appealing in this area that Jaco is now known as the “Land of Adventures and City of Surf. ” Surf by day and take advantage of all the nightlife, restaurants, and convenience of a bustling, small town during your time out of the water. For an even more chilled-out vibe, try Mal Pais and Santa Teresa located on the tip of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula and just an hour boat ride from Jacó. This very small community is tucked away along golden beaches with a breathtaking backdrop of green vegetation. An ideal location for surfers looking for a remote, individual surfing experience with no frills and just good waves in a beautiful atmosphere. Here you can find your surfing zone and get away from it all. If you want a true surfing adventure, travel to Puerto Viejo (Salsa Brava) on the Caribbean side. This Hawaiian-style reefbreak is known around the world for its size and power. When there is a swell, the biggest waves in Costa Rica break right here. You need to paddle in and out through a small channel in the reef. Experienced and adrenaline-seeking surfers only! If you want more variety, a mile or so south you’ll find Playa Cocles, a consistent beachbreak, and a few more miles south of that is Punta Uva. Wherever you and your board go, don’t forget your rash guard and lots of sunscreen to protect yourself against the Costa Rican sun.
Top Surf Spots in the World

Surfing has become a legitimate sport and advocates have placed their bids to include the wonderful water sport in the Olympics. Professional surfers throughout the world have been making a good living from the sport as it has had a big following. There are hundreds of professional competitions held in a year and clothing companies have also made a lot of money from surfing apparel. Perhaps the biggest obstacle on why surfing is not as widespread a sport as it should be is fact that it proves difficult for some to find “surfable” waves. Unless one lives in Australia, Hawaii, or other places where the waves are always huge, then people would need to travel to these places just to be able to try the sport. There are also different sizes of waves which means that one would need to go to a specific beach depending on his skill level. Below is a list of some of the best surf spots in the world reserved only for the wave lovers out there. Australia Some argue that Australia is the surfing capital of the world. This may actually hold true because of the fact that there are dozens of surfing beaches in this country that would suit all types of surfers. However, the pick of the bunch has to be Gold Coast beach. Located in the country’s sixth most populated city of Gold Coast, this shore boasts of 70 kilometres of beach which includes four point breaks. Although quite pricey, this beach is a must for surfers who want to experience the real thing. Asia There are a lot of wonderful surf spots in the countries of Asia including a number of beaches in Thailand and in the Philippines. However, some experts say that the best surfing beaches are in Indonesia. Lying on the western side of Sumatra, the Mentawi Islands possesses some of the most consistent waves in the world. The best waves come in during the months of June to September so that would be the best time to come to catch the tallest waves. Another famous spot in Indonesia are the beaches of Bali. The city packs the most tourists for the country, and for good reason. Aside from the rich culture of the place, the surf is excellent as well. Although the beaches may get a bit crowded during peak season, it is still a worthwhile journey as waves may rise to as high as 12 feet. The Americas For people looking to surf in North America, there is no better place to go other than California in the United States. The best beaches include Malibu and Steamer Lane while novice surfers are sure to enjoy in Half Moon Bay or Santa Cruz. South America also has some of the best surfs in the world and few are up to par with those in Santa Catarina in Brazil. Locals say that this place is proud to have the best waves that Brazil has to offer. Other places in the Americas that are worth visiting for their amazing waves are Sunzal and La Libertad in El Salvador, and Playa Naranjo in Costarica.
