What they call summer in Costa Rica is from about January to about July. From about August to about December is what they call their winter. (They only refer to two seasons, tied to the rainy or dry weather patterns.)
So to answer your question about if summer is okay: YES. (October is definitely the rainiest month in CR.)
I would suggest going to Baru reserve (not 100% sure on the name) but it is just a couple of miles north of Dominical. If you ask in town, they’ll direct you there. If you want, you could even stay overnight in the "jungle" on a treetop canopy. Otherwise, they do have other accommodations.
Have Fun!

Summer is the wet season so you need shelter in the afternoon. Otherwise, anytime is good in CR!
