Question about travel to Costa Rica?
My friend and I are planning a two week trip to Costa Rica during the month of August. We plan on flying to San Jose, and then renting a car so we can explore the rest of the country, and hopefully neighbouring countries. And there lies my question – can I rent a car in Costa Rica and travel outside of the country? I have been trying to do some research all over the Internet, but to no avail.
Thank you so much ahead of time for any answers provided. I will pick best answer, don’t worry : )
Hi,
No rental company will permit you to do that, there aren’t any alliances yet between countries and its too risky for them. The best you can do, is rent a car in one country, return it and then rent another one in the next one. You’ll have to take either a private bus company between countries or public buses.
Hope this helps,

Sure you can! It depends on the company though! Some rental companies dont allow it, some don’t even let you take it out of the state! But it’s not like they’re gonna know where you went, so just go ahead! I would! Because we plan to fly into Boston someday, and rent a car and go into Canada! Technicaly, I dont think you’re suppose to, but the rental company’s not gonna know, unless you get a ticket or something! So just go for it!
