Travel to Costa Rica?
We are thinking of traveling to Costa Rica.. We are a family of three (with 10-year-old child). What places would you recommend? Is flying to San José (the capital) our best bet? If not, where else can we fly to? We want a beach (obviously, hehe), and some fun/interesting activities to do. Mommy (that’s me) is also interested in shopping! Recommendations/Suggestions/Input greatly appreciated!

Safety would be my concern in Costa Rica.Stay in a well secured area.I had a friend robbed there a couple of years ago.Another friend of mine went down ther with a group of 5 other people and one of them was murdered.
Being robbed at an atm machine is very popular there, according to my friend who goes there all the time.It is a beautiful country and for the most part the people are friendly.
Just be careful.Stay in the tourist areas.

I HAVE BEEN THERE AND I FEEL IT IS ONE OF THE SAFEST COUNTRIES IN LATIN AMERICA – You can be murdered in downtown LA if you are not careful – Costa Rica is economic, people friendly. -

If you want to be close to the beach, San Jose is not your best bet. Even though you will be about 2 hours from either the Pacific (Puntarenas) or Caribbean (Limon) coast, the best beaches are much further away, which means you would have to rent a car (adding to your hotel bill), or use public transportation (sometimes a nightmare). At this time of year, there is a lot rain and the roads are deteriorating. Your best bet is to fly into Daniel Oduber Airport in Liberia, and stay at a hotel near the beach. There are some wonderful hotels in Liberia which cater to the tourism industry.
You can stay at hotel resorts which have everything included in the stay. You will be picked up at the airport, taken to the hotel, the food and drinks will be included and all you have to do is enjoy the culture and people.
As with most traveling, it all depends upon your budget and how far your pocketbook stretches. For more information on hotels and other Costa Rica related information, you can go to http://www.ticosland.com, the leading web directory in Costa Rica. You can find everything you need on the website. Good luck!

I would recommend flying into the San Jose airport. rent a car from Avis. I recommend them to all my friends that visit. I would highly recommend the La Fortuna area. There is so much family stuff to do there (zip lines, hot springs, rafting, hiking and not to mention the most beautiful volcano in C.R. Arenal.
I’d spend a 2 or 3 days there and head for Samara. It’s a quite town with great beaches. There are so many things to see here. It really depends on your budget and stay.
