Costa Rica Travel and Vacation
Visitor Information
Would you reccomend a vacation to costa rica? Are the bugs an issue?
My family of 3 kids and my husband were thinking about going to costa rica in late august, but we heard that the bugs are crazy and were afraid that would be a problem. Is it? Would a trip to costa rica be a nice enjoyable one?
I highly recommend vacationing in Costa Rica. I wear bug spray, and have never had a problem with the bugs. Well, ants are usually an issue. Don’t leave any food out in your hotel room – nothing. Put it in sealed containers or in a fridge (if you hotel room has one). Ants will invade your room in a couple of hours if you leave any food where they can find it.
I disagree that kids wouldn’t enjoy Costa Rica. Depending on their ages, they would probably enjoy different things – but it can be really educational if you want it too be. They have tons of wildlife, volcanoes, rain forest, cloud forest and so much interesting stuff your kids heads will be spinning. They have the opportunity to learn about a different culture. You can really have a great time with this trip and make it a learning op for your kids that they won’t soon forget.

I go to Costa Rica annually, and I love it there…. I’m going again in less then 4 weeks!
That being said, you will be going during rainy season, which is good because it will be cooler, and you will get to see more waterfalls and greenery, but bad because it will rain for at least and hour or two every day.
Also, I would not bring kids younger then 8 or so down there on a vacation.
There are bugs, but it’s not a big issue.

Rainy season is my favorite time to go. Did not notice many bugs.

Costa Rica is heaven on earth. But you need to pick the correct location and plan it out on a map.

Try this …you can use it as a Costa Rica GPS in your garmin unit too.

I know traveling with kids is sometimes hard because you have to think on so many things before going anywhere. I live in Costa Rica and have 4 kids and we travel a lot with them. There are a lot of places for them to enjoy for example in Arenal there are hotels that offers special places for they to be and they even have nanny´s so you can enjoy some free time your own.
Bugs, well you are coming down to a Rain Forest, Cloud Forest with more than 157 protect areas meaning 25,21% of the country; so, you should find bugs but isn´t a big problem I guarantee you that! — avoid beaches at night and keep your windows close after 4pm , that would make it even easier for you and the kids! –
Have a nice time and do not worry about that seriously and if you need any advice on places to visit or things to do with the kids , just email me it would be a pleasure to help you out! nathymma@yahoo.com

The mosquitos are assholes but if you use bug spray they’ll leave you alone.
